About Older DVDs
There is a real problem in the industry regarding older DVDs. Its the term Sealed and its complete nonsense. Here is the truth on older DVDs. Sealed means nothing. Every single seller has a wrap machine. So many DVDs are being sold from dealer to dealer and they have been sold to a customer, traded or sold back in and then re-wrapped.
We really want to get away from Sealed and we want to focus on condition. I don't know that customers will allow it, but its the better way to sell and buy DVDs.
There are very few sealed DVDs that mean anything. The only ones are Voyeur Media and Wicked because they use a tamper proof sticker over the opening that you can't fake.
We think older DVDs.
- Should be open before they are sold
- They should be inspected to make sure its the right DVD in the case
- The DVD should be taken off the holder, inspected and then graded on condition.
- The DVD should be put in a sleeve to prevent damage during transit.
We feel like this would be a better way for customers to buy DVDs because it would prevent sellers from re-wrapping DVDs and selling the "Sealed" DVD for a huge premium.
I don't know what it would take to get things there, but soon there won't be many sealed DVDs left on older DVDs, which will make it more tempting for sellers to re-wrap previously sold DVDs.
