About Using Mobile Devices for Shopping

Do not use your mobile device for shopping.   I can't stress this enough.   Everyone does what they want to do anyway, so I'll tell you why its insane.   My wife only uses her phone to shop.   So I'm sympathetic to the mobile shopping community.   She refuses to change.

  1. Take the paper towels off the roll and only look through the tube.  That's you using your mobile device to browse websites.   You only see a fraction of what computer customers see.  Everything is DUMBED down on the mobile version of a website.  Its like going to a restaurant and they bring the best menu with all your favorite things and you say "we will be using mobile tonight" and they take the great menu and they bring you back a piece of computer paper on it that says "Food" and nothing else.  When customers tell me they use their phone to shop on the website I'm simply shocked.   If you only have a phone then its what you have and you can use it to shop the site.  If you have a computer please use your computer.
  2. The screen is about 2 inches wide.  The screen on a computer is about 26-30 inches.  I'm not even going to explain this one.
  3. Your phone isn't really built to use websites.  Sure you use them all the time.  The problem is the cart.  The cart is 1000 times more complicated than the home page.  The cart has to keep track of the items you add to it.  This runs in the background and it takes a lot of memory.  None of your know how to use your phones properly (I don't either.)   We are all running 100 apps and have 1000 windows open that we don't know how to close unless our nephew comes over.  Trust me I'm the worst at using the phone.   Some people try to add 200 items to their cart on their phone and then blame our site because they can't check out.  Its your phone.  It can't handle all that information.   Just because something worked before, doesn't mean you should use it.   I easily have 1000 emails say that "I can't check out on your site and I have 50+ items in my cart."   Then say say "Its always worked before and my reply is that well you can't say that tomorrow."   There is always a first.   This is that time.   You have been slowly using up all the memory on your phone.
  4. How websites are made.   When you make a website you have 3 pages for each page.   You have the Computer Page (Best), Tablet Page (Average), Mobile Version (THE WORST.)   If I really disliked someone I would tell them to use their phone for shopping on the internet.

I understand you want to watch Netflix and browse the site.  I get it.  I do it too.   But are you really paying attention to what you are doing as you scroll for hours.

Take 15-20 minutes and really focus on the website on a computer and you will be more productive.

Here is another hard truth.   If you think you are grabbing all the good deals on the site, you are not.  I have the statistics.   Its the computer users.   They complete checkout more often.  They spend less time on the site per purchase.   They complete checkout after a specials email so much faster than mobile users.

We sprinkle in crazy deals all the time.   90% are bought by desktop users.   Mobile customers don't stand a chance.
