Factory Sealed DVDs

Factory Sealed DVDs

A DVD wrapped in plastic is not automatically factory sealed.

There are two types of plastic wrap commonly seen on DVDs:

Shrink Wrap

Shrink wrap can never be considered factory sealed, even if the item originally came from the factory that way.

Shrink wrap works like this:

• The DVD is placed inside a plastic bag
• The open end is sealed
• Heat is applied to shrink the plastic tightly around the case

Because this method is easily reproduced, shrink wrap cannot verify a true factory seal.

Gift Fold Wrap

Gift fold wrap is the only type of wrap that can be factory original.

However, not all gift wrap is factory wrap.

Many DVDs are being re-wrapped by hand using gift wrap systems to imitate the appearance of factory packaging.

While this can look convincing, true factory wrap has characteristics that cannot be duplicated, particularly in the folds.

There are clear indicators of a DVD being re-wrapped.
A hand re-wrap cannot perfectly reproduce the four factory folds.

Requirements for Factory Sealed Verification

For a discontinued DVD to be listed as Factory Sealed, it must meet all of the following conditions:

• Verified factory gift fold wrap
No shrink wrap
No tears or damage in the plastic
No writing or stickers on the wrap
No damaged DVD case

If any of these conditions exist, the item will not be classified as Factory Sealed.

Verified Factory Sealed Titles

If a discontinued DVD on our site is labeled Factory Sealed, it means:

• The seal has been verified as authentic
• The item has no damage to the wrap or case
• The item is being sold specifically as a sealed collectible

High-value sealed titles may also include:

Protective bagging
