Certified DVDs

Certified DVDs are graded by hand using protective gloves to prevent fingerprints. Each disc is inspected to confirm authenticity. No DVRs or inferior copies are accepted. Cases must be free of cracks or damage.

A tamper-proof sticker is applied to the DVD and the Cover.  This is done because dealers have been buying our opened DVDs in off condition and resealing them as new.  We have bought back our own DVDs in "Factory Sealed" condition that we sold as used.   We have tracked dealers by what they purchased from us and found shortly after they purchased a used DVD from us, they would have a factory sealed copy.  We sold it as used and now its factory sealed.  We can't do this any longer.   Customers are paying factory sealed prices for used DVDs.   This isn't an isolated thing.   It has exploded across the entire industry.   From the 1000 DVDs we inspected:  If we bought it from another dealer and it was over $50 it was resealed.   Cheaper DVDs were more likely to be truly factory sealed.   We have to all ask ourselves:  Where did we really think these factory sealed copies were coming from?   We all need to blame ourselves that none of us were saying where did this guy get a factory sealed copy of "Blondage 3" from Vivid?   We all have to admit that we were all caught up in wanting to believe these DVDs were factory sealed.   I had to admit that 1000s of DVDs in my own inventory could not be sold as factory sealed.  If one DVD in the 1000 has been resealed, then I have to open all of them.   Some of you have to look in the mirror as well.   That means the resellers and the collectors.

Factory sealed does NOT equal perfect condition. Not even close. From over 1,000 older DVDs opened, only about 150 qualified as Pristine (5/5). Higher-priced DVDs were more likely to have been resealed. Folded wrap does not guarantee factory wrap.

Grade 5/5 (Pristine)
Must be perfect. No marks, no wear, no handling. At most, a single microscopic touch or speck may be present—and even that is questionable.  If it appears to have been removed from the case, it does not qualify as a 5.   Many DVDs are truly factory sealed and have flaws and slight touches to the back of the DVD.  They are not 5's.   A collection of factory sealed DVDs is not going to be all 5's.

Grade 4/5
Ranges from near-perfect to lightly handled. May include very minor flaws or slight signs of contact.

Grade 3/5
Visible flaws present. Includes light to moderate scratching, including patterns of wear.

Grade 2/5
Commonly known as “shaker grade.” Significant circular scratching from disc movement. Clearly used with noticeable damage.

Grade 1/5
Heavy damage. Deep scratches and severe wear. The worst condition—extreme use or mishandling.
